Everything you would check before giving us money.

Published here rather than made available on request, because the second one is what organisations say when the answer is awkward.

Money

How funds are handled

No profit distribution

All income and property is applied solely to our objects. No dividend, bonus or profit may be paid to any member. This is a condition of our licence, not a policy we could quietly change.

No member remuneration

No member may receive remuneration or benefit in money or money’s worth, beyond genuine out-of-pocket expenses, proper interest on money lent, or proper rent on premises let.

Audited annually

True accounts of all sums received and expended are kept, and examined each year by a qualified auditor. Accounts are open to inspection by members.

Constitution is locked

No alteration may be made to our memorandum or articles without the prior approval of the Registrar of Companies.

Assets protected on wind-up

If the foundation is ever wound up, remaining assets pass to another organisation with similar objects — never to members.

Separate banking

Foundation funds are held in a dedicated current account in the foundation’s own name, separate from any personal or business account.

Where we stand

Compliance position, stated honestly

We are five months old. Some registrations a mature non-profit would have, we do not have yet. Rather than leave you to work out which, here is the position as it actually stands.

If you are a CSR team reading this: we cannot yet receive CSR funds, because CSR-1 has not been filed and accepted. If you want to work with us, the useful conversation right now is about what you would need to see before the next financial year. Start it here.

How we treat the people we support

Most of the people we work with are children, and children cannot meaningfully consent to being used in an organisation’s marketing. We therefore hold ourselves to a few rules that go beyond what the law strictly requires.

First names only. We do not publish the surname of any child we support.

No locatable detail. School names, village names and any other information that would let a stranger find a child are removed from anything we publish, including redacting documents before they go online.

Photographs are optional. No child has to appear in a photograph to receive support, and consent can be withdrawn at any time without any effect on their sponsorship.

No performed gratitude. We do not ask children to write thank-you letters to donors or appear at fundraising events.

Ask us the awkward questions.

We would far rather answer them now than have you wonder later.
